CIRM is a residential centre that welcomes on average 3500 people every year. Since 2012, much of the accommodation has been renovated, in order to bring a more modern and comfortable feel to the place.
Events organizers have to secure a budget to invite participants. When their conference is chosen by the scientific committee at CIRM, the decision is made for CIRM to normally subsidize up to 40 participants (chosen by organizers) and organizers look for external funding for the remaining participants. On some occasions, organizers may ask participants to contribute to some of the costs, in particular when extra nights have to be reserved (for people leaving on a Saturday for example).
In general, arrivals take place on Sunday night and departures on Friday after lunch. Any time spent at CIRM outside these days (such as a Friday night) incurs costs that may be or may not be covered by the organizers' budget. Note that CIRM closes on Saturdays just after breakfast till Sunday night.
The "40-subsidy" scheme is intended as a subsidy for the board and lodging of participants only, not their possible accompanying partners - unless they also are participants in the event. Local researchers are also not included in that offer as they reside elsewhere. Organizers should contact the Events Budget Officer to check the ways in which the meals of participants and speakers coming from the Marseille region can be paid and what to do about the meals of accompanying people. Note that anyone intending to bring their children over should be aware of the information here and
should contact the Accommodation officer if they need help with finding alternative accommodation.
In the case of "Research in Pairs", CIRM subsidizes board and lodging for the whole duration of 2 or 3 weeks for non-local participants. Participants are housed in studios so that they can cook their own meals at week-ends, when the restaurant is closed.
CIRM has 86 beds available
- 31 shared rooms (twin beds)
- 21 single rooms (7 with a double bed)
- 1 triple room (3 single beds)
Studios: reserved for participants in Research in Pairs, as well as long-term guests (e.g invited as part of the Jean Morlet Programme of Invitations) and are subject to vacancies at the requested period. CIRM has 4 studios which are very much in demand.
This does not apply to all guests, but we prefer to give you the whole picture.

The restaurant situated in the ’Bastide’ building accommodates up to 95 guests. It is famous among the community of mathematicians for the quality of its food and service.
On Thurdays, the traditional 'Bouillabaisse' meal is served, unless other arrangements have been made between organizers and the Events team ahead of the event. There is an extra charge of around 12€ Per person for this special meal.
The Restaurant can offer vegetarian options or can cater for any food intolerance as long as the information is relayed to the Accommodation Officer at the start of the week or preferably in advance when all participants are asked to complete board and lodging registration.
Wine is for sale at the Restaurant. A special CIRM's 'Cuvée Mathématique' (white wine) was created in 2013 and is popular with the Bouillabaisse dinner, and the SMF also has its own wine (red wine).
CIRM LOUNGE BAR
From 9pm to 11pm the CIRM lounge bar is open and serves drinks and snacks.
